Dr. Garvin H. DavisAfter growing up in Baker, Louisiana, Dr. Davis and his identical twin brother went to Cambridge, MA and graduated with an electrical engineering degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1993.  Dr. Davis then earned a medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1998.

During medical school he took a year to earn a Masters of Public Health at Johns Hopkins while simultaneously completing a fellowship program in Preventative Ophthalmology, offered in conjunction with the Wilmer Eye Institute.  After a year of medical internship at Mount Auburn Hospital (affiliated with Harvard University), he completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

After twelve years in the Northeast, he moved to Texas with his wife to complete a vitreoretinal fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Davis joined the faculty at UTMB in 2004 where he trained residents, conducted clinical research, and cared for patients.  He joined the faculty of the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in 2009.  He continues to combine his love for patient care with a passion for technological application to medicine.  He is the current president of the Houston Medical Forum, which is the Houston chapter of the National Medical Association, the oldest organization dedicated to promoting the interest of physicians and patients of African descent. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife (Dr. Melenda Jeter) and two daughters. He also enjoys cooking, fine dining, wine collecting, golf, investing and spending time with friends.
